FC Bayern Women play their final home game of the 2023/24 season when Nürnberg come to the FC Bayern Campus for Sunday’s derby in the Google Pixel Bundesliga (kick-off: 2pm CEST). Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game in our preview.
State of play
Bayern were crowned champions of Germany for the sixth time last week as they beat Bayer Leverkusen to secure the title for the second year running with two games to spare. Alexander Straus’s team are on 54 points, with a lead of seven over Wolfsburg. However, Die Frauen missed out on the chance to claim a historic maiden domestic double with defeat in the DFB Cup final to the She-Wolves on Thursday. Bayern’s final game of the season sees them go to Hoffenheim next weekend, when Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir will be presented with Meisterschale.
Opponent: Nürnberg
The visitors have had a tough season and suffered a likely damning 1-0 loss to RB Leipzig on Monday. It means Nürnberg are second from bottom in an automatic relegation spot. The gap to Köln and safety is six points with two games to go, but the Bavarians’ goal difference is far worse, meaning their fate could be finally sealed in Munich.
Team news
Bayern come into this game without Franziska Kett (muscular), Ana Maria Guzman (knee), Tainara and Alara Sehitler (both ill). Weronika Zawistowska and Cecilia Ran Runarsdottir are both in training again after their injuries but not fit for Sunday. Meanwhile, Carolin Simon made her long-awaited return from a cruciate ligament injury last summer in Thursday’s cup final.
Pre-match quotes
Alexander Straus: “We always want to win. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage that on Thursday, which really hurts. But we definitely want to leave the pitch as winners on Sunday in our last home game – both for us but above all for the fans. The Campus is sold out again, and our fans have given us amazing support all season. That’s why we’ll focus and prepare 100 percent so we can enjoy a win again with them on Sunday.”
Linda Dallmann: “We have a score to settle with Nürnberg from the reverse fixture. We all know that. We’ve got big intentions again, want to play with freedom and score goals. We won the title in Leverkusen and will get the trophy at Hoffenheim. That’s why we want to give our fans at home at the Campus a good finish with a good game and a great atmosphere.”
Fan fest to finish season
