Hold onto first place: FCB women host Juventus

Here we go again in the UEFA Women's Champions League! After FC Bayern Women returned from the international break with a 2-0 away win at SGS Essen, Juventus are the visitors on Campus on Thursday, 12 December. Kick-off is at 18:45 CET and the match will be broadcast free of charge on DAZN. Here’s all you need to know ahead of the game in our preview.

The situation

After four matchdays in the UEFA Women's Champions League, FC Bayern Women are already safely through to the quarter-finals as Group C leaders. Although their last match against Vålerenga ended in a 1-1 draw, three wins and a draw were enough to secure their place in the knockout stage of Europe's premier women's club competition. In the reverse fixture in Turin, Straus' side celebrated a deserved 2-0 away win thanks to goals from Linda Dallmann and Pernille Harder.

The Munich women are also in good form in the Bundesliga. Following a 2-0 win against SGS Essen, they're in second place but level on points with league leaders Eintracht Frankfurt and head into the upcoming match with their tails up.

Another reason for being confident: FC Bayern Women are unbeaten in nine home games in the UEFA Women's Champions League - a new club record!

The opponents: Juventus

Juventus are currently in third place in Group C with three points. After four games, the Italians have notched up a 1-0 win over Vålerenga and three defeats. Head coach Joe Montemurro's team therefore have no chance of progressing to the next round of the UEFA Women's Champions League.

Team news

Head coach Alexander Straus is still without Lena Oberdorf (cruciate ligament), Katharina Naschenweng (knee) and Mala Grohs (illness) for the UWCL clash with Juventus. Magou Doucouré is also ill so is not in the squad. There is some good news, however: Franziska Kett is back in the squad again following her ankle injury.

Pre-match quotes

Alexander Straus: "We performed well in the two games we played against Juventus recently. It will still be a difficult, close game. Neither our approach nor that of our opponents will change. We have to show that we want to use the opportunity to continue our development. That's the only way you can approach a game against strong opponents."

Giulia Gwinn: "We know what we can expect from them. But we're focusing on ourselves and our game. We're looking forward to walking out onto the pitch at home with our fans behind us. We're in a good position in the group, are playing in a dominant and convincing manner and have been able to pick up so many points as a result that we can now decide for ourselves whether we finish in first or second place."
