Latest news from Bayern
FC Bayern Women finished the group stage of the Champions League on 13 points to qualify for the quarter-finals. After remaining unbeaten in the first five games of the group stage, head coach Alexander Straus' side lost 3-2 to Arsenal on the final matchday despite a brace from Magdalena Eriksson and had to settle for second place.
FCB Women have only previously met Lyon three times in the Champions League, most recently in the group stage of the 2021/22 campaign. After the first leg in Lyon was won by the French side, the second leg and only home game to date against Les Gones ended in a 1-0 win thanks to a headed goal from Saki Kumagai. The two teams also faced off once again in the Champions League final knockout tournament in the 2019/2020 season. After a hard-fought match, FCB Women were narrowly beaten 2-1 by the French side in the quarter-finals in Bilbao.
In the Bundesliga, VfL Wolfsburg were the visitors for the FCB Women's top match last Friday. Thanks to a brace from Pernille Harder and a header from Lea Schüller, the reigning German champions celebrated a deserved 3-1 home win over the Wolves to consolidate their place at the top of the table.

The opponents: Lyon
With six wins from six games, head coach Joe Montemurro's side are enjoying a flawless season so far and finished the UWCL year as group winners on 18 points. As Bayern did in the league, Lyon most recently played VfL Wolfsburg in the UWCL: the eight-time tournament winners wrapped up the group stage with a 1-0 win over VfL thanks to a late goal from Daniëlle van de Donk.
Last Friday, the team including former Bayern player Sara Däbritz had a successful dress rehearsal ahead of their visit to the Bavarian capital: Lyon thrashed Stade Reims 8-1 at home to secure their 16th win in their 17th league game in Division 1 Féminine.
Team news
Heading into this CL tie with Lyon, Bayern are still without long-term injurees Lena Oberdorf (knee ligaments), Katharina Naschenweng (knee joint) and Georgia Stanway (knee ligaments).

Pre-match quotes
Alexander Straus: "Lyon are one of the best and most successful teams of recent years. They have a lot of good players and a high level of individual quality. The club has managed to develop a special identity and culture over the past few years. Ultimately, that is also the key to their success. It won't be easy, of course, but we will have a strategy. When we play against the best European teams, we want to prove what we can do. Clashes like this are very important for our development. We need confidence in ourselves and in what we're doing."
Caro Simon: "Lyon are a world-class team with incredibly good individual players. Whoever gets through the group stage in the Champions League is always very strong, so you can't talk about an easy or a difficult draw; every team will pose a challenge. I'm looking forward to the clash; these are exactly the kind of opponents you want to face in the Champions League. We'll go into the game fully focused and confident and try to implement our match plan."
