Latest news from Bayern

Bayern won their most recent game prior to the international break, beating fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Klara Bühl and Lea Schüller. That made it nine straight league wins for the Munich Frauen and extended their lead at the top to six points over Frankfurt in second. Bayern boast the tightest defence in the division with only 12 goals conceded, but Eintracht have the best attack with 59 goals. Both teams have scored in all but one of their matches this season.

Frankfurt come into this crucial game on the back of indifferent form, winning two of their last four games against Werder Bremen and Essen but also losing to Freiburg and Wolfsburg. Last time out they came from behind to claim a 4-1 victory in Bremen. Niko Arnautis’ side have earned eight points from losing positions this season, which is second in the Bundesliga only to Bayern (13).

The most recent meeting with Eintracht came in February’s DFB Cup quarter-final, as Bayern prevailed 4-1 in extra-time thanks to goals from Jovana Damjanović, Glódís Viggósdóttir and Momoko Tanikawa. The first league encounter of the season, also in Munich, ended 1-1, with Pernille Harder getting Bayern’s goal. Saturday’s game will be the 50th between the teams in the Bundesliga.

Team news

Head coach Alexander Straus remains without both Georgia Stanway (knee) and Tanikawa (ankle). Lena Oberdorf and Katharina Naschenweng have returned to training but are not yet ready to return. Captain Viggósdóttir is also a doubt after she missed the international break with a knee issue.

Pre-match quotes

Alexander Straus: “We’re facing a very tough job away in Frankfurt. They’ve always shown good mentality in our past meetings, whether that was in this year’s cup quarter-final or last season’s semi. We provided a little bit of magic in those games, which we want to repeat again on Saturday.”

Giulia Gwinn: “We’re all highly motivated. We’ve got a few decisive weeks coming up. We’ve got ourselves into a good position over the course of the season, which we want to defend in Frankfurt. For Eintracht, it’s definitely the game they’ve been waiting for. It’s maybe a kind of revenge for them for the cup loss. We want to play with energy and enjoyment to bring back the three points and cement our position at the top of the table.”

FC Bayern Women will return to the Allianz Arena again later this year:
