GPS FC Bayern Munich Tour

33 GPS players from six states are gradually arriving back in the US following the club’s first ever tour to partner FC Bayern Munich, this past week.

The trip consisted of training sessions with FC Bayern coaches, games against FC Bayern junior teams and attendance at the Audi Cup 2015 matches. The travelling party also competed against local opposition, toured the city by bus, by bike and by foot and visited Neuschwanstein Castle in southern Bavaria, the inspiration for Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle.

“Since our partnership announcement with FC Bayern this past November, one of our unrealized goals was having GPS players, on the ground, in Munich,’ said GPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley. “As our mission states, we seek enhance the player development experience in all our States and the opportunities provided to our players in Bavaria will certainly have done that.”

The group arrived in Munich on Thursday morning and spent the first two days at Säbener Strasse (the home of FC Bayern) during which they received coaching from Bayern staff and competed against FC Bayern Junior Teams.  Both teams competed well against their respective opponents with the boys being defeated by 2-1 and the girls 3-2.

GPS players also got to enjoy the full fan experience of a packed Allianz Arena with attendance at the 2015 Audi Cup, seeing Bayern beat Milan on day one. After a morning of sightseeing and shopping, GPS returned to the Allianz Arena to see the showpiece final between Real and Bayern. Robert Lewandowski’s winner received rapturous cheers from the fully converted GPS FC Bayern fans.

“It doesn’t get much better than watching FC Bayern play Real Madrid in one of the greatest arenas in World Football,” said Bradley.  “The players on the Munich trip really got to the full FC Bayern experience and they will be excited that they can stay in touch with FC Bayern more easily via the Fox Sports Coverage of the Bundesliga beginning next week.”
