Christoph Freund and Max Eberl bid farewell to Leroy Sané with two gifts

‘Thank you, Leroy!’ - Emotional farewell after five years at Bayern

An emotional farewell: Leroy Sané helped FC Bayern on the pitch one last time in the round of 16 on Sunday in Miami, playing 32 minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 4-2 (3-1) win over Flamengo and celebrating with his teammates as they made it into the top eight teams at the FIFA Club World Cup. The emotional farewell to the team followed the next day at the team hotel in Orlando: after five successful years, including four Bundesliga titles, 223 competitive matches, 61 goals and 55 assists, Leroy Sané is leaving FC Bayern for Galatasaray on 1 July.

"You’ve achieved great things for five years"

"You've achieved really great things for this club for five years," said board member for sport Max Eberl, speaking in front of the squad: "On the one hand, I'd like to say thank you for what you've achieved. And on the other hand, I would like to wish you all the best for your new journey. We wish you all the best from the bottom of our hearts," said Eberl, who, together with sporting director Christoph Freund, had brought two gifts: a special jersey with the number 223 for Sanè's 223 competitive appearances for the German record champions and a photo collage with scenes from five years at FC Bayern and the words ’Thank you, Leroy!'".

"Be very, very fondly remembered as a person too"

Christoph Freund also had some warm words of farewell for the departing winger: "All the players, the staff and I will remember you very, very fondly, not only as a player but as a person too. I think that's very important. I wish you all the best, Leroy!"

Sané addressed Eberl, Freund and the team personally: "I'm very grateful for the five years. It's been an exciting time and we've won a lot together. I wish you all the best for the rest of the tournament and hope you take the trophy home with you. All the best, thank you!"
