Only one point stands between the FC Bayern women and defending their Allianz Women’s Bundesliga title! In a rematch of the DFB Cup semifinal three weeks ago, FC Bayern defeated SC Sand 3-0 thanks to goals from Vivianne Miedena (38’), Melanie Behringer (68’), and Sara Däbritz (76’).
The FC Bayern women now need a draw or win against Bayer 04 Leverkusen this Sunday (May 1st, 2 pm CET) in order to secure the championship title.
“We performed very differently than three weeks ago,” said coach Thomas Wörle, adding he was “proud” of his team. Captain Melanie Behringer added: “Our goal now is the championship, and we want to make that clear next week.”
Coach Tom Wörle made three changes to the lineup from the previous week, starting Carina Wenninger, Eunice Beckmann, and Vivianne Miedema in place of Raffaella Manieri, Veronica Boquete, and Lisa Evans in a 4-4-2 formation.
As in the DFB Cup semifinal weeks ago, Sand kept the Bayern attack at bay, allowing few chances in opening 15 minutes. Long-range attempts from Jovana Damnjanovic (37’) and Isabelle Meyer (45+1) gave the hosts hope until Bayern took advantage of a set piece, with Miedema putting away a Behringer free-kick in the 38th minute. The FC Bayern increasingly pressed Sand further into their own half, eventually doubling the lead off a direct free-kick from Melanie Behringer (68’) and Sara Däbritz adding to the tally (76’), ending in a 3-0 win for the FC Bayern women.
