As a coach, as a player

High-flyer! Hansi Flick is the first German to do the double-double

This crazy season for Hansi Flick has no end! With his triumph in the cup final against Leverkusen, the 55-year-old head coach of the Munich side has now won the German double both as a player and as a coach. Previously, only Niko Kovač had succeeded in doing so - last year, also with FC Bayern.

Flick was 21 years young when he celebrated winning the German title for the first time. On 3 May 1986, a 5-2 victory over Stuttgart in the cup final secured the Munich team the Double. 24 years later Flick was ready again to repeat this act - this time as coach. An outstanding second half of the season secured FCB the league title. In the cup, the team didn't falter and beat Leverkusen's Werkself 4-2 in Berlin's Olympic Stadium.

David Alaba became the defensive leader of the Munich team under Flick's leadership.

In the early stages of the current season, hardly anyone expected Bayern to achieve that. But with Flick in office, FC Bayern quickly got back on track: "He managed to lead the team from lethargy to the championship title. In the end, it was a real triumph," Franz Beckenbauer said, impressed, in the German newspaper Sportbild. In an interview with German TV station Sport1, Honorary President Uli Hoeneß saw it similarly: "One constantly hopes that the team will always play the way they play now. We always had good individual players, but Hansi did a great job of turning these individual players into a great team".

The next plans are already forged

But soon Flick and his team will get back to work, because the season is far from over at FC Bayern. "Today there is simply joy that we won the Double. The players can now relax for a few days and then we will start preparing for the Champions League," Flick announced after winning the cup final.

Goal machine Robert Lewandowski also made his presence known in the final against Leverkusen. All the important facts about his brace can be found here:
