Danilo Barthel is the new team captain of FC Bayern Basketball. The 26-year-old international thus succeeds Anton Gavel who ended his career on Wednesday. Barthel's second will be Serbian international Vladimir Lucic, who, like last season's final MVP, is entering his third Munich season.
"This is of course a great honour for me to be able to represent Bavaria as captain," Barthel said. "After Bryce Taylor and now Anton, I'm following in great footsteps, but I'm really looking forward to my new role."
Coach Dejan Radonjic said: "Danilo is a great professional, he sets an example every day. This and his character predestine him as a captain, he deserves this role."
The Bavarians will return to Munich this Friday evening after their training camp in Riva del Garda on northern Lake Garda and training matches in Bruneck/South Tyrol.
"We have had good preparation so far and are very satisfied with the state of affairs. We will continue in Munich on Sunday," said Radonjic before leaving the Hotel Majestic in Reischach.
They will play the next official test match next Wednesday in Iserlohn. In view of the upcoming national team window, Nemanja Dangubic (most recently Red Star Belgrade) completes the period as a training player for this phase of preparation.
