The Bayern basketball players are adding versatility and further EuroLeague experience to their squad: Serbian winger Nemanja Dangubic will be reinforcing the German champion team in the coming season. The 25-year-old, who initially began his preparations with the Bayern team as a training player, has worn the Red Star Belgrade jersey in the most prestigious competition over the past four years. In the EuroLeague, the 6ft7 tall athlete currently has 84 appearances (5.4 ppg). In the 2014 NBA Draft he was picked number 54 by the Philadelphia 76ers; the San Antonio Spurs immediately fraded for him and have held his right since then.
Dangubic was exclusively introduced to the most loyal fans at a team presentation for season ticket holders on Tuesday evening. "It's a great honour to be part of such a big club now," he said on the sidelines of the event at the Audi Dome. "Starting the next chapter of my career at FC Bayern is exciting. I will do my best to help the team achieve its goals".
"He will bring athleticism, defense and versatility to our team," said FCBB Sports Director Daniele Baiesi. "Our coach knows his abilities because he alread coachedNemanja in Belgrade. After a difficult phase with an injury last year, he is now fully back to attack with us".
In fact, Nemanja Dangubic's workout last month was not new territory for him, as his coach in Belgrade for three years was Dejan Radonjic. From 2015 to 2017 they won the Adriatic League (ABA) and the national championship together, as well as the Regional cup twice. As a youth he went through the national teams of Serbia from the U16 to U20. With the U18 he won European silver in 2011 as well as World Championship silver with the U19. He has also played in the A-national team.
Dangubic made his professional debut in 2011/2012 with the first division team Vrsac, where he was trained in the youth program. From 2012 to 2014, he spent two years at the Belgrade suburban and training club Mega Leks and finally a long-term engagement with Roter Stern. There he won the championship again in 2018, but the ABA title that was relevant for EuroLeague participation went to Podgorica. Dangubic, however, improved last season mainly from a distance (EuroLeague three-way percentage: 46.8 %; ABA: 40.4 %). In the Adriatic League, he averaged 6.7 ppg.
