A few hundred people in need took advantage of the daily food distribution service provided by "Münchner Tafel" at the Grossmarkthalle this Thursday. FC Bayern Basketball, has been represented by office staff at the distribution for a week since Wednesday and also supported the charitable organisation with an official delegation from midday onwards:from the German champion's team, the national players Danilo Barthel and Paul Zipser actively mingled with the volunteers*, as did FCBB Managing Director, Marko Pesic. Club president Herbert Hainer joined them at short notice and supported the social commitment of the FCBB not only with his personal presence but also handed over a donation for 10,000 euros to the representatives of the "Münchner Tafel".

"The Bayern basketball players approached us again, wanting to help, which is a very encouraging sign for many of our guests and helpers. This helpfulness touches us as Münchner Tafel very much", said Axel Schweiger of Münchner Tafel.
Club manager Herbert Hainer said: "FC Bayern has always been socially committed and when I heard that our basketball players were going to Münchner Tafel, I spontaneously agreed to help. It is great and very important that they are setting an example right now in the Corona crisis to help people."

Together with Pesic, Hainer had Tafel employee Schweiger instruct him in the procedures at their offices. "The fact is that normally many elderly citizens volunteer at Tafel," said Pesic, "but at the moment it is of course better that they stay at home. That's why it is natural for us to help. This will not remain our only action during this Corona crisis. Because the issue is much bigger than FC Bayern Basketball."
Food is needed especially now, as restaurants have closed and can no longer supply surplus goods. At present, the main demand is for long-lasting preserves (especially fish), but also for easily digestible fruit and vegetables, dairy products, sausages, baby food, sweets and the like. Goods can be sent or picked up.
Like Pesic and Hainer, the FCBB Bavarian national players Paul Zipser and Danilo helped out, lifting boxes of strawberries from the forklift truck and serving dinner guests. "We've been here before and we know how important this is," said Barthel. "We are here again today to help out a little and to use the reach of our club and the sport to draw attention to what is missing from the Tafel right now.

For the professionals of the Bayern basketball team, it was the third on-site event to draw attention to the value of the facility. Employees of the FCBB office will help with the construction and distribution of the Münchner Tafel until Wednesday.
The food bank usually distributes food at 27 distribution points in the Munich city area - per week to around 20,000 people living in poverty. In view of the crisis resulting from the coronavirus pandemic and the associated output restrictions, food is currently only distributed centrally at the Munich wholesale market, which has made its space available.
