After the start of the season preparation the Bayern Basketball players will play their first test game on Tuesday (27.8.): The German champions will meet the NCCA team of the renowned Stanford University in Rosenheim at 18:00. The game will be played in the Gabor-Halle (Ebersberger Str. 32a), hosted by SB DJK Rosenheim. Tickets are still available at the box office.
On Tuesday, a good acquaintance will be travelling along with Greg Monroe and Josh Huestis: Heiko Schaffartzik, playmaker of the Munich championship team of 2014, is a guest player for Bavaria under coach Dejan Radonjic. The 35-year-old is currently without a club and supports the FCBB in view of the vacancies thanks to the national players at the World Cup in China.
Debut of Monroe & Co. against NCAA team
"Heiko approached us at short notice to see if he could train with us until he knew where he would play this season. In view of Maodo Lo's lack of preparation, for example, this is a good game for this first training phase, especially as Heiko is very experienced and in good shape," said FCBB Managing Director Marko Pesic.
The former captain of the national team played 91 games (7.8 ppg) for the Bavarians between 2013 and 2015 before spending three years in France (Limoges, cup and Europe Cup win with Nanterre). After a knee injury a year ago, a commitment in Spain did not come about, now Schaffartzik is attempting a come-back and is keeping himself fit for a few days in Munich.
The Stanford Cardinals have been on a European tour through Italy, Switzerland and now Bavaria for a week. NCCA teams are only allowed to undertake international test game trips every four years. Last season's top scorer was Kz Okpala (16.8 ppg), who will play for the Miami Heat in the future afting being picked 32nd in this year's NBA draft. The US College was also a training center for current NBA stars such as Dirk Nowitzki's teammate in Dallas, Dwight Powell.
The Bavarians will play another - not public - game on Friday (30.8.) against the MBC from Weissenfels. On Monday, September 2nd the Bavarians will meet the Shanghai Sharks from the Chinese CBA in the Audi Dome, a date exclusively reserved for season ticket holders. On September 10th the champions will then set off for the USA and Uruguay as part of the "BayWa Basketball Tour 2019". After a stay in Miami, the FCBB will take part in the top-class "NBA G League International Challenge" (18 - 22 September) in Montevideo.
The Bavarians will start the new Bundesliga season on Monday, September 30th, tip-off at 20:30 with a home game in the Audi Dome against Hamburg. Three days later, on Thursday, October 3rd, the new EuroLeague season against Armani Olimpia Milan will begin at the Audi Dome (20:30).
