The decision was made when the FC Bayern basketball players had just reached the Audi Dome for the scheduled semifinal against Ulm: The Top Four for the German Cup in the Audi Dome was officially postponed on Saturday afternoon - after two positive tests for the Covid virus for BG Goettingen on Friday and Saturday. The Munich health department canceled the second semifinal of the Lower Saxons against defending champion Berlin. On Thursday, the rotational PCR test had still been without a first positive case. The BG made an admissible request for postponement, whereupon the top of the BBL GmbH in the Munich tournament hotel "Leonardo Royal" finally decided for the complete postponement of the tournament to a later date: "The format of two semifinal games and one final game, which was planned according to the invitation to tender, is no longer possible in the form of a Top Four on a weekend as part of the MagentaSport BBL Cup today and tomorrow."

Pesic: "We hope that they are healthy again soon".
"Our team was already in the hall and ready to play, but due to the positive tests, the tournament had to be cancelled," FCBB General Manager Marko Pesic also stated. "First and foremost, we now wish the affected individuals that they are doing well and will soon be healthy again." He added, however, that the incident showed that the safety concept was working. A possible make-up date could possibly be after the end of the regular BBL season in mid-May, "the BBL has found solutions so far."

Head coach Andrea Trinchieri's team, which had already put on its jerseys at the time of the cancellation, will now start preparations for the EuroLeague playoffs starting Tuesday in Milan with a practice session on Sunday. They depart on Monday.
