Danilo Barthel leaves Bayern after four years

Danilo Barthel is leaving FC Bayern Basketball after four successful years. The 28-year-old power forward informed the club of his desire to seek a new challenge abroad. Barthel arrived in Munich from Frankfurt in 2016 and celebrated two German championships with FCBB (2018 & 2019), as well as a cup win in 2018. He has captained the team for the past two seasons before his contract expired in June.

"This was a tough decision to make, as FC Bayern Basketball isn’t just a great team, but it has also become my home," said Barthel. "I hold everyone in the organization close to my heart. I’ve had four fantastic years here, in which we have achieved so much. I have decided to leave the club to seek a new challenge abroad for the first time. That doesn’t change the fact that I remain very closely connected to FC Bayern Basketball."

"FC Bayern Basketball has become my home"

FCBB chief executive Marko Pesic expressed his gratitude to Danilo Barthel: "Danilo contributed to the overall positive development of our club, beginning with the vital double win two years ago. At 28, he would like to try something new. We respect that and wish him all the best, both in his career and his personal life."

Danilo Barthel played 149 Bundesliga games for FC Bayern Basketball – only four have played more, with Nihad Djedovic (238) leading the pack. He scored 1,528 points, an average of 10.3 per game. The 2018 championship winning season remains a highlight for the Heidelberg naïve, after he was crowned MVP in the finals with an average of 12.8 points and 4.6 rebounds in the series against Berlin (3-2).

Barthel also made 57 appearances in the EuroLeague (8.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg), as well as 37 in his first year in the EuroCup (7.4 ppg, 3.8 rpg).

FC Bayern Basketball thanks Danilo for his commitment and wishes him all the best for the future.
