The new Bundesliga season is not scheduled to begin until November, but the entire cup competition, including the Final, is scheduled to take place between mid-October and early November. These decisions were made by the league's executive committee and the representatives of the current 17 BBL clubs at their meeting last Tuesday. After final coordination with all partners, it was decided that the 2020/2021 season will start on the first weekend of November (6 - 8 November). The competition with the regular season and the playoffs is to be retained as in the past, with the 2021 champion being determined by mid-June (15.6.) at the latest.
For FC Bayern Basketball, the new season will begin with the first EuroLeague game against Armani Milan on October 2nd.
The second national competition for the German cup will be held before the season this year: in an extended mode, modified for the coming season only, the cup duels are expected to begin on 9/10 October. The final for the MagentaSport BBL Cup (possibly as part of a Top4) is planned for the weekend before the start of easyCredit BBL. Final details are to be agreed upon shortly and will be announced by the BBL.
The FCBB recommends downloading the Corona-Warn-App
The extent to which spectators will be able to watch the games live in the arena will be clarified in the coming weeks in close cooperation with authorities. The clubs will develop hygiene and safety concepts for their arenas as well. The plans will change in the context of the further development of the Corona pandemic. The FCBB therefore continues to recommend downloading the Corona Warning App, which is already being used by around 15.5 million German citizens.
The league intends to announce the BBL's provisional fixture list and the final 18-team field soon after the licensing process is completed.
