The Bayern Basketball team's opponent for the playoff quarterfinals for the German championship, which begins next Friday, has been determined: As expected, the Munich team will face the Niners from Chemnitz, first in two home games this Friday (May 13) and 48 hours later on Sunday - both starting at 20:30 in the Audi Dome.
The best-of-five series then moves to Chemnitz (Friday, May 20, 20:30.), where a fourth game would also be played on Sunday (May 22, 20:30.). If there were to be a deciding game for a place in the semifinals, the FCBB, third seed, would again have home advantage against Chemnitz, sixth seed; then on Wednesday, May 25th (20:30).
"Open account" with the Niners
At the same time, the Munich team has the chance to take revenge for the three defeats this season against the Saxons; in November, they lost 85-80 away from home in the Cup and also fell in two EuroLeague games. "We definitely have a score to settle with Chemnitz," says Bayern national player Andreas Obst.
Chemnitz squandered a better starting position for the playoffs, specifically fourth place, last weekend with a 95-93 loss in Crailsheim. Ludwigsburg secured this spot on Wednesday evening in the last game of the regular season against Heidelberg (98-83).
For Chemnitz, national player Jan Niklas Wimberg returned to the squad in Crailsheim after a long injury layoff. In the previous game, they clearly dominated second-place Bonn at home (90-68). The Niners finished the regular season with a 22-12 record (Bayern: 25:9) and are in the postseason for the first time in their second BBL season.
