The Bayern Basketball team will face their eternal southern rivals from Bamberg in the round of 16 of the BBL Cup. The rivalry game with home rights for the defending champions from Munich was revealed by the draw on Wednesday. The duel will take place on either the 2-3 October at the Audi Dome. The 2021/2022 season begins for head coach Andrea Trinchieri's team the week before, on September 26 (18:00) with the league opener against Ulm; on Thursday (Sept. 30) before the Cup clash against the Upper Franconians, Bayern takes on Israeli record champions Maccabi Tel Aviv in the first gameday of the EuroLeague.
The Munich-based team is the defending champion of the BBL Cup, having won the final of the Top Four at the Audi Dome against Alba Berlin in mid-May (85-79). The 2022 Top Four is currently scheduled for February 19/20, the Cup quarterfinals for November 13/14.
