There are exactly four weeks left before the BBL playoffs kick-off in mid-May. The Bayern basketball team has already clinched a playoff spot and has a comfortable cushion as the third seed and with another home win this Wednesday evening against Frankfurt, home-court advantage in the first round would also be fixed.

The game starts at 19:00 and then on Sunday (15:00), the Cup winners will travel to Crailsheim. Next Wednesday they will face off against Rostock (19:00). Bayern currently sports an eight-game winning streak.

Frankfurt on the brink of relegation

The Skyliners from Frankfurt who lost 3-2 to Bayern in the 2018 playoffs, have been in an intense fight against relegation for months and the decision could come down to the very last game. Bayreuth has already been officially relegate with only five wins (5-23), but the second relegated team could be Frankfurt (8-20), Braunschweig (9-19), MBC (9-19) or even Hamburg or Crailsheim (both 10-19).

Change of coach and various re-signings have not done the trick for a team that is struggling just to stay in the top league. The trend has recently been upwards under long-time assistant Klaus Perwas. This past weekend they defeated Weissenfels 71-65 at home in the easyCredit BBL; before that, they pulled off an upset in Rostock (99-77) and a few weeks ago also against Chemnitz (89-84).

In addition to adding Perwas, former frankfurt guard Jordan Theodore (18 ppg in two appearances), who was recently brought back to the team join Joshua Obiesie, a good friend of the Bayern squad.

Play & Win

The Munich native played decently at times last year in Munich and trained a lot with FCBB assistant coach Emilio Kovacic. For his new club Frankfurt, the soon to be 23-year-old guard appears more stable despite the circumstances and is delivering an average of 12.1 points. Against MBC, he was the top scorer with 22 points, ahead of Lukas Wank (11) and Theodore (10).

Gameday with sign language interpreters

There will be a novelty at the Audi Dome on Wednesday evening: at the invitation of the FCBB, a group of hard-of-hearing fans will be guests on the 29th BBL gameday, and two sign language interpreters will help to enliven their experience.

During the halftime break, there will also be a game played by the wheelchair basketball players of the RBB Munich Iguanas, who won the championship of the second Bundesliga last weekend. The FCBB congratulates them on winning the title!
