Instead of celebrating with the normal wreaths and public speakers, skydiving and action were the name of the game for a unique build celebration on the occasion of the completion of the roof truss at the SAP Garden construction site. Two skydive pilots landed on the roof of the multifunctional sports arena and delivered the last nut for the now finished steel roof truss structure of the SAP Garden. In addition, athletes from ice hockey, basketball, figure skating and video gaming demonstrated the diversity of the new home of the Red Bull Munich ice hockey team and the Bayern basketball team.
"Builders" Uli Hoeness celebrates the work done
"This hall is a win-win situation for everyone," says Uli Hoeness, who as the club's president at the time helped get the new super hall on the former Olympic site off the ground and now looks back on the history of its creation. Today's honorary president said: "We can look forward to a new prestige object for the city. Whatever takes a long time is worth it in the end."
The topping-out ceremony also marked the launch of the new sapgarden.com website. From now until July 25 next year, a ticket raffle will be running where fans have the chance to win 100 free tickets for the big opening event in 2024 at the SAP Garden.
Since November 2022, 18 truss girders, each weighing almost 170 tons, have been lifted and installed for the roof structure of the SAP Garden. Now, in May 2023, the last 100 grams of a total of 3,000 tons of steel were put in place. The steel roof of SAP Garden is finished. It spans 14,000 square meters of floor space and will be covered with a flower meadow once all construction work has been completed.

"Professional ice hockey and basketball, ice skating for families and many other events - the SAP Garden will fill the city with new life," says Hoeness, looking forward to the possibilities of the new arena. Together with Dietrich Mateschitz, he launched the "SAP Garden" project and is sure: "In connection with this arena, everyone will get a completely new relationship to sports."
