Sports director Daniele Baiesi is leaving Germania

The FC Bayern Basketball bids farewell to a special friend: Sports director Daniele Baiesi is relocating back to his hometown in Italy after ten years in Germany, effectively concluding his tenure with the Munich double winners during this summer break.

"Working at Bayern was an immense honor and an indescribable privilege. I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone I've worked with and for over the years," says the 48-year-old Italian. "I hope I was able to repay the incredible trust and respect I've always received here, and that the team is now in a better position. I leave with great affection and gratitude."

"Significantly shaped positive development"

Since summer 2017, Baiesi had been working in Munich, guiding FCBB to seven titles in seven years: the double of championship and cup in 2018, defending the championship in 2019, winning the cup again in 2021 and 2023, and now the double again in 2024. Additionally, Bayern's basketball team reached the EuroLeague playoffs twice, becoming the first German team to do so in 2021 and 2022.

"We had known for some time that Daniele had been contemplating a change after a decade in Germany. We deeply regret this decision and wish him all the best for the future," says FC Bayern Basketball CEO Marko Pesic. "We will miss him not only as a seasoned expert who significantly shaped our club's positive sporting development over the past years, but also as a person of great character. Although Baio is no longer our sports director, he will always remain a close friend of our organization and the Bayern family."

Returning to Bologna

Daniele Baiesi began his career in the early 2000s in Italy as a manager and scout before becoming a talent scout for the NBA's Detroit Pistons. In late 2014, he started as sports director in Bamberg, where he achieved four titles before joining Bayern three years later. He postponed his planned departure for one more season a year ago.

Baiesi is now returning to Bologna, where his family resides; his future professional plans remain open.

The FCBB office bid farewell to Baiesi on Tuesday following his final press conference – the entire organization wishes him well and hopes to see him again soon.
