The MVP stays: Edwards extends contract in Munich

The team aiming to defend its title in the BBL will retain another key player: Carsen Edwards has extended his contract with FC Bayern Basketball. This means he will enter his second season in Munich, with a third season included as an option in the contract. The 26-year-old powerhouse from Texas led Bayern's offense in the 2024 playoffs as the top scorer (16.9 points per game) and was named MVP after the final triumph in Berlin. This trophy is still in the FCBB office – now the shooting guard can place it in his preferred spot when he returns for the start of training in mid-August.

“I’m really excited to come back to Munich for the next season,” says Edwards. “I’m looking forward to the coming year and especially to seeing our fans again.”

Unstoppable in the Playoffs

After a year with Fenerbahce in Istanbul, Edwards began his second season overseas a year ago. The former NBA professional (76 games for Detroit and Boston) improved to 11.5 points per game in the EuroLeague in Munich, making him the second-best scorer behind Serge Ibaka (12.6). Alongside Nick Weiler-Babb, the agile offensive machine was the only FCBB professional to play all 34 games in the top tier competition.

In the BBL playoffs, Edwards was even harder to stop without the double burden, averaging around 17 points in 27 minutes of playtime, the best value of all Bundesliga players in the postseason; his three-point shooting percentage was 42.2 percent, and he also averaged 2.2 assists per game.

In the playoff quarterfinals against Ludwigsburg (3:1), Edwards even scored an average of 20.3 points (50% three-pointers) – in the final 88:82 victory in Berlin for the double win, he scored 29 points with seven out of ten three-pointers. Including the regular season, his BBL average after 40 games was 13.2 points.

Bayern CEO Marko Pesic: “We are very happy that we now have continuity in this position and that our great wish has come true to have Carsen in our team for at least another season.”
