Bayern add Neno Dimitrijevic to their guard rotation

Bayern Basketball’s backcourt is complete again: Following the recent departure of Spencer Dinwiddie, the German champions have secured the signing of EuroLeague-experienced combo guard Nenad “Neno” Dimitrijevic over the weekend. The 27-year-old North Macedonian international had moved from Olimpia Milan to Zenit St. Petersburg in the summer, but now returns to the top European competition. The 2024 MVP of the Eastern European VTB League has signed with Munich until the end of the season, with an option for another year.

“With Neno, we are strengthening our roster at a position where we have suffered several injuries and after Spencer was unable to return,” explained sporting director Dragan Tarlac on Monday. “As the VTB League’s most valuable player, with his development years in the strong Spanish ACB and a season in Milan, he brings a lot of experience to our guard rotation, alongside his dynamism and power. We are looking forward to his energy, defense, and his offensive ability to create solutions for himself and others.”

Developed in the Spanish ACB

Dimitrijevic, who will wear number 0, has already completed all medical checks and trained with the team for the first time on Monday evening. “Munich is a great and highly respected organization, and when Coach Pesic calls you, it’s an honor and a no-brainer,” he explained his decision to join. “I really wanted to return to the EuroLeague and want to help win as many games as possible right away. The team wants to win the league, the cup, and fight for a playoff spot in the EuroLeague until the very last game. I will bring all my energy and fighting spirit so that we have a chance to win every game.”

The 1.90-meter guard left his hometown Skopje at age 14 to join the renowned youth program of Spanish top-flight club Joventut Badalona. He made his ACB debut at 18. Over five years there and one season with Valencia (9.5 ppg), he played 167 games in Europe’s strongest league, averaging 7.2 points; in the EuroCup, he appeared in 41 games, averaging 10.7 points and 3.8 assists.

VTB MVP 2024

He then spent two years in the VTB with Russian powerhouse Unics Kazan, taking on even more responsibility. During the 2023 championship run, he was named Playoffs MVP after averaging 12.9 points and 5.5 assists per game in the season and 15.8 points per game in the playoffs. In his second year with Kazan, he was named league MVP after averaging 19 points (44% 3PT) in the regular season.

He also received an MVP award in Milan, winning the Supercup at the start of the season. In the league (8.2 ppg) and EuroLeague (7.6 ppg), however, his role was more limited. His EuroLeague best: 22 points in a win over Real Madrid in November 2024.

Most recently with Zenit St. Petersburg, Dimitrijevic again impressed as an energetic team player (11.5 ppg, 5.7 apg). He made headlines in November 2024, scoring 43 points for North Macedonia against Lithuania in a EuroBasket qualifier.

Neno Dimitrijevic is married and has a three-year-old son.
