At the beginning of the new year, Bayern’s basketball team must once again adjust its roster: Spencer Dinwiddie will no longer play for the German champions. For personal reasons, the contract of the 32-year-old, which was originally valid until the end of the season, was terminated by mutual agreement. Dinwiddie had been allowed to travel to the United States shortly before Christmas due to a serious illness in his family and with the consent of the sporting management.
“I would like to thank the organization, the team, and the fans. Despite the recent challenging phase of the season, I felt very comfortable in Munich. Unfortunately, I am currently not in a position to play”, says Dinwiddie.
Bayern sports director Dragan Tarlac adds: “We thank Spencer for the commitment he gave us. But sometimes other things are more important than sport. Health comes above everything else, and we sincerely hope that everything will turn out well for Spencer and his family in 2026.”
The experienced NBA professional joined Munich in October and thus moved to Europe for the first time. In the EuroLeague, he made eleven appearances and averaged 11.7 points (2.9 assists), making him Bayern’s second-leading scorer behind Andi Obst (12.4 ppg). This also applies to the domestic league, where the US guard averaged 13 points per game in five appearances (4 assists / Obst: 15 ppg).
FC Bayern Basketball wishes Spencer Dinwiddie and his family all the best for the future.
