With the finals series of the 2026 playoffs against Berlin (2:3), the great coaching career of Svetislav Pesic also came to an end on Sunday. The 76-year-old German-Serb had announced his retirement in the spring after nearly 45 years as a coach, having celebrated a total of 23 titles — including, in addition to five championships in his adopted home of Germany (among them Munich’s first BBL title in 2014), the 2002 World Cup triumph with Yugoslavia, two European Championships, and the 2003 EuroLeague. In virtually every conceivable competition, the FIBA Hall of Famer won at least a medal.
The former playmaker of Partizan Belgrade and Bosna Sarajevo coached Bayern for the first time from fall 2012 to 2016, and then again after taking over shortly before Christmas 2025. He recently published his revised biography.
FC Bayern Basketball wishes Svetislav Pesic all the best for this new chapter — we’ll stay in touch!
