The situation for FC Bayern
Following the 1-0 loss in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Villarreal on Wednesday, it's important for Bayern to get straight back on track. "It won't be an easy game. We want to win and can't afford any slip-ups," Julian Nagelsmann said on Friday in his press conference before the match against Augsburg. FCB extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points thanks to last Saturday's 4-1 away win at SC Freiburg and nearest rivals Borussia Dortmund's 4-1 defeat at RB Leipzig. Since the three-point rule was introduced, no team has ever managed to close such a large gap this late in the season. In addition, the Munich side will also be looking to boost their confidence ahead of next Tuesday's CL second leg against Villarreal. For the first time in over five months, the players can count on the support of a packed Allianz Arena.
For the first time since November, 75,000 fans will be admitted to the Allianz Arena:
The opponents: FC Augsburg
FC Augsburg are something like the team of the moment in the Bundesliga. Head coach Markus Weinzierl's side have picked up nine points from their last four games - the best haul in the league over that period! This has given the Reds' Bavarian rivals some breathing space in the battle to beat the drop. During the week, FCA managed a 2-1 home win against 1. FSV Mainz 05 in a game rescheduled from Matchday 26. "Augsburg are on a good run. They play with different basic formations and are doing well. They have good team spirit, a good mentality and good pace across different positions," FCB coach Nagelsmann said about the upcoming opponents.

Team news for FC Bayern vs. FC Augsburg
Nagelsmann revealed in the press talk that Niklas Süle and Leon Goretzka will start the game and Alphonso Davies will be rested. Bayern are still without Corentin Tolisso (torn muscle) and Bouna Sarr (patella tendon problems). Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is out of self-isolation but is expected to miss out due to knee problems. "It's an injury that's difficult to assess; it can take three days or three weeks. I don't expect him to be able to play. We'll see if he's able to manage on Tuesday or the following weekend," commented the boss on Choupo-Moting.
FC Augsburg will be without the long-term injured Felix Uduokhai (thigh), Tobias Strobl and Noah Sarenren Bazee (both cruciate ligament ruptures) and the suspended Carlos Gruezo (five yellow cards), as well as Mads Pedersen (tested positive for COVID-19) and Frederik Winther (ill).
Julian Nagelsmann: "It's an important game from many points of view, we have a sell-out crowd and a Bundesliga game with derby character, so we're looking forward to it. We'll be well motivated. We have no tolerance for slip-ups. This is about our inner drive. The all-important thing is how we go about it."
Markus Weinzierl (Trainer FC Augsburg): "Games against Bayern are always special, of course, and we'll be up against top opponents. We'll be giving nothing away. Three important points are at stake. Of course we're the big underdogs, but we'll give absolutely everything and, as a unit, run ourselves into the ground to get a result. We'll have to make sure they don't enjoy the game, defend compactly and with presence. Anything is possible."
