FC Bayern take on Manchester City with former Munich title-winning coach Pep Guardiola and star newcomer Erling Haaland in Green Bay as part of the Audi Summer Tour 2022 in the USA on Saturday (kick-off at 6pm CDT/1am CEST on Sunday - free live stream on fcbayern.com, the FC Bayern app and social media channels).
Although the encounter takes place in the middle of the night for German fans and it is a friendly, the prospect of an encounter between FCB and Man City is so electrifying that the air crackles in anticipation.
The showdown is at Lambeau Field, the first ever association football game at this venerable NFL temple. The stadium will be almost sold out with fans from a total of 19 nations and all 50 US states. All the information about the game is in this preview:
The situation for FC Bayern
The Washington leg of the tour is over - and the mood three days after the 6-2 goal fest against DC United could hardly be better. The welcome in Green Bay on Lake Michigan, home of American football team the Green Bay Packers, was as warm as it was euphoric.
All autograph and selfie requests from the fans at the team hotel were granted. "The environment is different, interesting, a trip like this is fun," said Serge Gnabry, describing his impressions, while Thomas Müller was impressed by the imposing, historic buildings and large parks.
The Bavarians have some intensive training sessions in their legs, but they also go into the duel with the Sky Blues with plenty of wind in their sails. Sadio Mané and other new signings Matthijs de Ligt, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui showed against DC that they can help the side immediately. "These are top lads with top quality, they did a good job, it looks good," said Gnabry, who was not the only one to recognise this in his analysis.
"We have a good atmosphere in the team. A pre-season tour is good to get even closer together. It's been great again so far this year," said Kingsley Coman.
The last meeting with Manchester City was six years ago as FCB won 1-0 in a friendly in 2016. Erdal Öztürk came on for David Alaba to score the goal.
How many goals will there be this time? Coman didn't give too much away with his prediction the day before, saying: "We want it to be a nice game. We want to perform well with our new signings and prepare well for Leipzig." The Supercup away at RB takes place on 30 July.
Opponents Manchester City
'Servus, Pep!' will surely be called out by one or two FCB players to their former coach. Guardiola has been the coach of the Citizens since 2016 and has strengthened his squad this summer. The league title in England will not be enough for him this season - he wants to finally win the Champions League, his ultimate aim. Centre forward Haaland will perhaps be key to this goal. The Norwegian arrived from Borussia Dortmund and will most likely make his debut against Bayern.
However, the 22-year-old's record against Bayern has room for improvement. Although Haaland has scored five times in seven games, he hasn't won a single one of the encounters.
It will also be interesting to see how Kalvin Phillips (from Leeds United) integrates into the new structure. There are no changes in the strong core of Kevin de Bruyne and Ilkay Gündogan.
Julian Nagelsmann, who turns 35 on Saturday, knows what to expect tactically. Guardiola generally relies on ball possession, game control and high pressing. "Of course I've been following Pep since the Barcelona days. The counterpressing back then was the most impressive thing at the time. When you're a young coach, you make sure you watch most of the games from the best coaches in the industry and get new ideas," said Nagelsmann.
City won their friendly against Club America from Mexico in Houston 2-1 with De Bruyne scoring twice. Things will also get serious for Guardiola on 30 July as his side face Liverpool in the Community Shield.

Mané will be missing for Bayern. The Senegalese African Footballer of the Year has flown straight back to Munich from the CAF Awards held in Morocco. “The idea was for Sadio to come back. But the distance is too far. The last few days have been intense. So we decided there was no point bringing him back. We don't want him to get injured," explained Nagelsmann. The coach will also be without Leon Goretzka, who has undergone knee surgery.
What Nagelsmann and Guardiola said
On the game against Man City: "I want to see attacking football again. It's important to win the game. We only have two friendlies games, we have to use them well. But Pep wants the same thing. City have a good coach and a good sporting director. They have done a great job in recent years and are currently one of the best teams in Europe."
On the new season: "I'm looking forward to seeing a new side to FC Bayern in the new season. We are already focusing on the first competitive game, the Supercup against Leipzig."
On Green Bay: "It's a fantastic stadium. The franchise is great. We are happy to be here. I hope the fans will see a great game. The Green Bay Packers are a great team. If I get the chance to see them play, I will take it."
Pep Guardiola (Manchester City coach):
On his former club: "Bayern have the highest standards and are always very strong. They no longer have Lewy, but they still have their core of Neuer, Kimmich and Müller. And Mané is an outstanding player. He can play in three or four different positions. Bayern have the charisma to always sign special players. When Bayern, Barcelona and Real Madrid call, other clubs don't stand a chance unless they pay more money."
On his opposite number: "Julian Nagelsmann is a young coach but he already has a lot of experience."
