FC Bayern drew 1-1 with 1. FC Düren in their second pre-season friendly on Sunday afternoon. The Reds trailed the Regionalliga outfit from North Rhine-Westphalia in the 40th minute when Rafael García struck. The equaliser for the German record champions came from Nestory Irankunda in the 69th minute.
The hosts had the early attempts on goal, Firat Alpsoy being blocked by Minjae Kim at the last moment (1st minute) and Sven Ulreich then saving García's effort (3'). For Bayern, Raphaël Guerreiro had a go in the seventh minute but Düren goalkeeper Max Schreiber was in the way. García had an audacious shot from distance in the 10th minute but the ball flew over. In the 21st minute, FCB suffered a blow when summer signing Hiroki Ito was forced off following a tackle.
García scores for Düren
Eric Dier had a good headed chance for Bayern in the 27th minute from a corner, but the centre-back directed the ball just wide of the far post. With five minutes left of the first half, the home side broke the deadlock. After a mix-up in the FCB defence, the ball came to García, whose strike made it 1-0 at half-time.
After the restart, Bayern pushed the hosts deeper and deeper into their own half, although clear-cut chances were initially hard to come by as Düren defended in numbers. Leon Goretzka had a go from distance but his shot missed the target (48').
Equaliser through Irankunda
Just after the hour mark, Bayern boss Vincent Kompany made no fewer than eight changes. With the new personnel, the Munich men continued to press for the equaliser and were eventually rewarded in the 69th minute. Adam Aznou's shot from the edge of the box was only parried by goalkeeper Jan Strauch and Irankunda was in the right place to convert the rebound. Arijon Ibrahimović (77') and Serge Gnabry (82') had good opportunities in the closing stages to net a winner, but it finished 1-1.
On Wednesday, Bayern head off to South Korea for the Audi Summer Tour. The Bavarians have several training sessions, fan events and a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur lined up in Seoul.
