FC Bayern are working flat out in training in preparation for the Champions League Round of 16 second leg match. Hansi Flick has the opportunity to see his players in competitive action on Friday. At the Audi Football Summit, as part of the Audi Digital Summer Tour 2020, the reigning champions of Germany and DFB Cup winners will play Olympique Marseille at the FC Bayern Campus.
Start of the final preparation phase
Flick has been very impressed with the previous sessions ahead of the Champions League restart. "I am, just as it was before the break, more than happy with the way the team are performing. The players are very focused and we have enormous quality and training," said the champions' coach. He sees the match against Marseille as the start of the crucial phase ahead of the clash with Chelsea on 8 August. "After the match against Marseille on Friday we'll take a breather and then focus completely on the game against Chelsea."
The opponents
The match against Marseille will be the only outing for Bayern ahead of the second leg against the Londoners at the Allianz Arena – and it will be a challenge. Marseille ended last season second in Ligue 1 behind serial champions Paris St Germain with the league ending early in March due to the coronavirus pandemic. The team coached by André Villas-Boas is currently preparing for the start of the French league on 21 August and his players have already been in training for several weeks.

Squad update
Unfortunately, fans will have to remain patient before they can see new signings Leroy Sané, Tanguy Nianzou, Alexander Nübel and Adrian Fein in action. "The lads have done well up to now. But they won't be playing in the friendly against Marseille," explained Flick. In contrast, the coach is hopeful Niklas Süle will be able to make a comeback following his cruciate injury. "I'm very happy with the way he's shaping up in training. I'm assuming he's fully fit. Of course, he lacks match practice but perhaps he'll have the opportunity to get time on the pitch against Marseille," said the 55-year-old.
