Bayern versus Schalke – this evening will be the 95th edition of what is a Bundesliga classic. The Reds have come out on top on 48 occasions, with the Gelsenkirchen side only winning 18 (28 draws). FCB have also scored almost twice as many goals (196 to Schalke’s 102). fcbayern.com has dug out a few other interesting stats on the match:
Bayern’s run
FC Bayern are unbeaten in 13 Bundesliga games against Schalke. Their last defeat was almost seven years ago (a 2-0 reverse in December 2010). Since then they have recorded 10 victories and three draws, scoring 34 goals and conceding just six.
Schalke’s run
Schalke have not lost at home in almost eight months. Their last defeat came against Frankfurt at the end of January, followed by five wins and four draws in Gelsenkirchen.
Strong on corners
Bayern have not conceded a goal from a corner in 85 Bundesliga matches. The last time they did was two and a half years ago, in February 2015 – against Schalke.
The man in the middle
Marco Fritz is the referee for Tuesday evening’s fixture, as he was for the last encounter with Schalke. In total the 39 year-old from Korb has officiated 16 Bundesliga games involving the record champions, and FCB have not lost a single one (14 wins, two draws). He’ll be assisted on the touchlines by Dominik Schaal and Marcel Pelgrim. The fourth official is Dr. Robert Kampa, while Bastian Dankert is the video assistant.
