Eintracht Frankfurt will be Bayern’s opponents in the DFB Cup final on 19 May. The Eagles edged Schalke 04 out in Wednesday evening’ s second semi-final with a narrow 1-0 win, reaching the final at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin for the second year in a row. Last year they were beaten 2-1 by Borussia Dortmund. The final will be Niko Kovac’s last game as Frankfurt coach before he takes over at Bayern on 1 July.
Real held to draw by Bilbao
It was a disappointing night for Real Madrid in their final game before the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Bayern next Wednesday. The Spanish champions were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Athletic Bilbao. Despite dominating the match, they needed a late equaliser from the world's best player Cristiano Ronaldo to rescue a point after Inaki Williams had given the visitors the lead in the 14th minute. Other than Casemiro and Gareth Bale, coach Zinedine Zidane fielded a full-strength team. Real are not in action this weekend, so they can focus fully on preparing for the clash with FCB.
Ribéry’s shirt attracts highest bid
Franck Ribéry is held in high regard by football fans. At an auction of hand-signed kits from all the players who took part in the Bundesliga match between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, the French star’s jersey went for the highest price of €3,525. The auction raised a total of €30,960 for the ‘Deutsche Sporthilfe’ charity which benefits young and top-class athletes.
