Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich and Thiago are among the 50 nominees for the UEFA Team of the Year 2019. Fans around the world now have the chance to select their best XI from the last year on uefa.com, and have until 9 January 2020 to do so. No Bayern player made it into the team last year, with Jerome Boateng the last FCB representative in 2016.
Lewandowski candidate for Champions League Player of the Week
Bayern goalscorer Lewandowski could receive an accolade even earlier as the Poland international is a candidate for the UEFA Player of the Week after his display in Tuesday’s 6-0 win at Red Star Belgrade. FCB’s four-goal hero is nominated alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Romelu Lukaku of Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
Lewandowski made history in Belgrade with four goals in 14 minutes and 32 seconds.
Lewandowski would be the second Bayern player to win the award this season following teammate Serge Gnabry on Matchday 2. The Germany international was named Player of the Week after his own four-goal haul in the 7-2 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur. Together, the pair have already rewritten the record books and made Bayern the first team in Champions League history to boast two four-goal scorers in a single season.
Gnabry became the first player in Champions League history to score four goals in the second half of a game when he did so in London – teammate Lewandowski repeated the feat in Belgrade.
