6 facts on Schalke cup clash

Two games away from Berlin! On Tuesday evening, FC Bayern visit FC Schalke 04 in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup. fcbayern.com has picked out six interesting facts and stats for you ahead of the match.

1. 12th meeting in the cup

Bayern have faced Schalke more often than any other club in the DFB Cup, with this being the 12th meeting between the two in the competition. Eight of those have come from the quarter-final stage onwards, making it the most-played fixture in the latter rounds.

2. Last cup clash also a quarter-final

The last time Bayern and Schalke faced off in the DFB Cup was in the quarter-finals of the 2016/17 campaign, when the Reds won convincingly 3-0 thanks to goals from Robert Lewandowski (2) and Thiago.

3. Long unbeaten run against S04

FCB are unbeaten in their last 20 matches in all competitions against the Royal Blues (W17 D3). The Munich men have scored a whopping 55 goals in the process (2.8 per game) and registered 12 clean sheets.

In the last meeting in the Bundesliga at the end of January, Bayern ran out clear 5-0 winners over Schalke at the Allianz Arena 👇

4. Aiming for record ninth knockout

If FCB progress on Tuesday, it would be the ninth time that they have knocked Schalke out of the cup, which would equal a record – Stuttgart are the only other club Bayern have eliminated nine times in the competition.

5. Perennial quarter-finalists

Impressively, this is the 13th year in a row in which Bayern have reached the last eight of the DFB Cup. In each of the last 10, the record cup winners have also made it to the semis.

6. Force on the road

Another good omen: Bayern have progressed in their last 32 away ties in the DFB Cup, although their nerves were tested in penalty shootouts on three occasions.
