On Saturday, the FC Bayern Esports team finally return to action after the coronavirus-enforced break as they contest the eFootball.Pro Cup. You can watch matchday one of the online tournament from 15:00 CEST on Saturday on our esports channels on Twitch and YouTube. Bayern’s Spanish trio of Alex Alguacil, José Sánchez and Miguel Mestre face Barcelona and Schalke 04 in the first round of the group stage. One week later, they go up against Monaco and Nantes in their second set of group fixtures.

Catch up on the Esports team’s competitive situation as well as the preparations of José Sánchez and Co here:

Meanest defence in the league

The group containing reigning champions Monaco and fourth-placed Barcelona is quite a proposition, but Bayern are going into the tournament with high confidence – and rightly so, looking at their record in their maiden season. Six wins, two draws and two defeats in the 10 matches that were played is definitely not to be sniffed at.

FCB’s strength so far has mainly been their defence, with the Munich men conceding just 10 goals – the best record in the eFootball.Pro League. Manuel Neuer’s virtual equivalent has kept five clean sheets, another league high.

Top scorer Wriedt and assist king Müller

Because of the Balanced Mode that’s used, the FCB gamers regularly call on the young players. The statistics of the virtual players show just how realistic PES 2020 is – Otschi Wriedt is not just the leading goalscorer in the third division, but has also scored the most goals for Bayern on the virtual pitch, accounting for seven of the side’s 13 goals. With four assists, FCB’s top provider is who else but Thomas Müller.

Level playing field

Balanced Mode will also be used in the eFootball.Pro Cup, as it is in the league, so that the strengths of the players are equal. This gives all esportsmen a fair starting point and means that ability on the console determines who wins and loses. Wriedt will no longer be available to the FCB gamers after his move to Tilburg, but Bayern will nevertheless not be lacking in attacking power.
