The hard work of the past few months has paid off. The FC Bayern Esports team celebrated two wins at the start of the eFootball.pro Cup. The Munich gamers produced a goal fest in the first group match. José Sánchez & Co. beat Schalke 04 6-0 and took that form into the second match of the day. FCB secured a narrow but deserved 1-0 victory over the Barcelona Esports team. That marked a perfect start ahead of the second matchday to be played next Friday (24 July 2020). FCB will face two as yet unfamiliar opponents in FC Nantes and AS Monaco.
The chances of a top-two finish and associated semi-final spot are very good after taking six points from the first two games.
Goal fest for starters
The FCB Esports players got off to a flying start in the opener against Schalke 04. In addition to six goals, Bayern created a host of chances and were solid as a rock at the back. Miguel Mestre was involved in six goals. He scored a hat trick and provided three assists against the Royal Blues. And the 21-year-old Spaniard also set up Alex Alguacil’s winner in the 1-0 victory over Barcelona. “We just played our normal game and when it works we’re capable of beating any team,” said Mestre, suitably satisfied with the performance.
MVP and Goal of the Day
The successful first matchday was rounded off by the FCB Esports captain José Sánchez being named the best player in the first round. On top of that, his strike to make it 4-0 against Schalke was the Goal of the Day - a wonder goal at the end of a perfect move. The captain was primarily happy about the good teamwork that made the goal possible: “We love playing in this style: quick, short passes and good runs. At the same time, we weren’t thinking about about scoring the goal of the day. We are primarily focussed on just winning games. If we pick up awards then it’s obviously even better.”
