When FC Bayern take to the field on Tuesday evening on Matchday 2 of the Champions League group stage, it’s not just a case of staying top of Group A. The reigning champions can also extend a number of runs and records. fcbayern.com rounds up the most important stats ahead of the clash with Lokomotiv Moscow.
1. Flick’s perfect Champions League record
Bayern have won all nine of their Champions League matches under Hansi Flick, scoring 34 goals in the process – an average of 3.8 per game. No other coach who’s been involved in more than five fixtures in Europe’s elite club competition has gone so long without defeat.
2. Extend record run
Overall, FCB are currently on a run of 12 successive Champions League wins – something no other team has ever achieved. Five of the last six have been by a margin of three or more goals, with the final against Paris Saint-Germain being the only exception.
3. Goals from everywhere
When Bayern step onto the pitch, fans can look forward to goals. In their last five Champions League outings alone, Robert Lewandowski & Co. have notched up 20 goals. These goals have been shared among nine players, which shows Bayern’s breadth in attack. From that list, only Ivan Perišić and Philippe Coutinho are no longer with the club.
4. Bayern with historic away streak
The holders are also unbeaten in 13 Champions League matches away from home, excluding games played on neutral ground. Their last defeat was a 3-0 reverse at PSG in September 2017. Since then, the Reds have picked up 10 wins and three draws. It’s the team’s longest run ever in the competition.
5. Home side yet to score in this fixture
There have been two previous meetings between Bayern and Lokomotiv, in the first round of the 1995/96 UEFA Cup. Bayern lost 1-0 in Munich but then triumphed 5-0 in Russia – the Russians’ heaviest defeat in European competition to date. Both sides are therefore yet to score at home in this fixture.
6. Good experiences in Russia
The German record champions have been involved in 20 matches against six different Russian clubs. The record is positive, with 11 wins, six draws and just three defeats. The majority of those encounters have come against teams from Moscow – 16 to be precise, with Rostov and Zenit Saint Petersburg making up the others. From their 10 visits to Russia, Bayern have recorded five wins and three draws, with all five victories coming in the capital, along with one draw.
7. Hosts with poor home record
Lokomotiv have lost six of their seven home matches in the Champions League (one win), including each of the last three. The Russians have never lost four European home matches on the trot, though.
