Two weeks after their last game in the KONAMI eFootball.Pro League against Schalke, the Bayern Esports team face their next defining fixture on Saturday (5pm CET). Matchday 3 of the online competition sees the team of Alex Alguacil, Miguel Mestre and Jose Sanchez, coached by Matthias Luttenberger, take on Scottish side Celtic. The goal this weekend is the full haul of six points for the first time this season.
Results against Schalke accepted
Due to technical complications, the results from the last matchday against Schalke were at first reviewed by the league organisers. Eventually, the 2-0 win in Game 1 and the 3-2 defeat in Game 2 were accepted. For FCB coach Luttenberger, the events from the match against the Royal Blues also played a role in preparation for facing Celtic. “We’ve trained intensively and tried to prepare for a somewhat slower gameplay to be prepared for possible conditions from the last matchday.”
Encounter with an old friend
Celtic finished last season in eighth place and are currently bottom of the table with only one point, but have already faced leaders Monaco and second-placed Manchester United. According to Luttenberger, the meeting with the Scottish team has a special element to it. “Celtic are at a very good level, but it’s also an exciting one for us because we’ll come up against Jorge ‘Jorcha’ Chaves, who was once a teammate of Miguel and Jose. He’s now Celtic captain and has performed well lately.” Mestre and Sanchez formed the team Shadow Hunters with Chaves in the PES League World Tour 2018, which at the time was the world championship and held offline.
