Debuts, record-breaking goal & now 18! Musiala has good reason to celebrate

Happy birthday, Jamal Musiala! The FC Bayern youngster celebrates his 18th birthday on Friday. It's yet another reason to celebrate for the forward, who can look back on a rather eventful few weeks and months.

Debut against Freiburg, maiden goal against Schalke

Musiala, who joined the German record champions' youth set-up from Chelsea in the summer of 2019, made his professional debut for FCB in a 3-1 win over SC Freiburg in June 2020. The next highlights followed soon after. In the Bundesliga season-opener against FC Schalke 04 (8-0), he celebrated his maiden goal for the first team.

The typical Musiala celebration: After scoring a goal, he forms an M with his fingers.

Musiala gradually established himself in Hansi Flick's squad and made more and more appearances. He scored again against Eintracht Frankfurt (5-0) and in the top-of-the-table clash against RB Leipzig (3-3). In November, he also celebrated his debut in the Champions League. Last Tuesday, with his goal against Lazio, Musiala made history, becoming FC Bayern's youngest scorer and at the same time the youngest scorer of all German clubs in the Champions League.

"Jamal is very assured on the ball and can also play well between the lines. He has a good sense of which spaces he needs to be in," was how Flick recently described Musiala's qualities. The now 18-year-old wants to bring these to bear in the coming games. How fitting that he has the next opportunity to do so just one day after his birthday on another day of celebration. On Saturday, FC Bayern host 1. FC Köln at their home ground, the Allianz Arena, on what will be the club's 121st birthday.
