With the match against RB Leipzig, FC Bayern get off to a flying start in April after the international break. For the Munich-based side, the match is not only about picking up important points in the title race, but also about the potential for a new club record. fcbayern.com has compiled the facts ahead of Matchday 27.
1. Top teams in top form
With four wins in a row, FCB currently have the longest winning streak in the Bundesliga. RB, for their part, have gone unbeaten for eight league games, picking up 22 of a possible 24 points (7 wins, 1 draw) - no other Bundesliga team has currently gone as long without defeat. In addition, no other Bundesliga team has picked up more points in the second half of the season than Bayern and Leipzig (22 each, equal with Wolfsburg). The rivals are not only currently the two best teams in the top flight, but in an overall Bundesliga table starting back when Leipzig played their first season in the Bundesliga in 2016/17, Bayern and RB also occupy the top spots.
2. Attacking power vs. defensive solidity
With 78 goals, FC Bayern have the best attack in Bundesliga history of teams after 26 games. The second and third FCB top goalscorers, Thomas Müller (10) and Serge Gnabry (9), have more goals to their name this season than the Saxons' top scorers, Marcel Sabitzer, Emil Forsberg and Christopher Nkunku (six each). Now, however, Munich's attacking machine will face in RB the league's best defence (21 goals conceded and 13 clean sheets).
3. Historic goal run on the cards?
The record champions have scored in each of their last 61 competitive matches, equalling a club record (previously between March 2013 and April 2014). A goal against Leipzig would therefore be historic for Bayern and would set a new record. The last time the Munich team didn't score was in February 2020 - in a 0-0 draw in the Bundesliga against upcoming opponents RB Leipzig, of all teams.
4. Home strength ensures record RB season
With 57 points after 26 Bundesliga games, RB Leipzig are having their best season in the German top flight. The Saxons' home strength is crucial to this: Leipzig have lost only one of their 13 home games this Bundesliga season (3-1 reverse vs. Dortmund) and have picked up 32 of a possible 39 points at home - only FC Bayern top this, by one point (33).
5. Record in FCB's favour
Bayern have won five of their eleven matches against RB so far, plus five draws and just one defeat. The goal difference of 25-15 also speaks in favour of the Bayern camp.
6. Three players out suspended
Alphonso Davies received his first red card in professional football against Stuttgart and will therefore miss FCB's match. In addition, Jérôme Boateng received his fifth yellow card against VfB and is also suspended. For Leipzig, Kevin Kampl is also out after receiving his fifth caution last time out.
