Alphonso Davies and Canada ended their week of international matches with a goalfest on Monday night. The Maple Leafs beat the Cayman Islands 11-0 in qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and celebrated the highest win in the history of the Canadian national team. In all, seven different players scored, with Davies' name appearing twice on the scoresheet.

In the 28th minute, the Munich man converted a penalty kick to make it 4-0, which he himself had earned after a driving run before he was felled. In the 83rd minute, Davies was on hand for the second penalty of the evening and converted the third rebound to make it 9-0 and goalkeeper Albertini Holness made two strong saves from Mark-Anthony Kaye. The clash was originally scheduled for Sunday evening, but had to be postponed by a day due to the lack of COVID testing in the Cayman Islands.

Perfect start to World Cup qualifying campaign

After three assists against Bermuda on Thursday, Davies also put in a strong performance in Canada's second game. With six points, the Canadians have made a perfect start to their World Cup qualifying campaign and have already totted up a commanding goal difference. This could be crucial in the end if Canada are to be level on points with another nation by the end of the campaign. John Herdman's side currently lead Group B, level with Suriname. In June, Davies & co. will continue their journey towards Qatar 2022 with matches against Aruba and the aforementioned Suriname.
