The 31st championship in the club's history is already in the bag, but there are still two matchdays left for Bayern – and they could set some historic records. Read on to find out more in our facts and stats ahead of the Matchday 33 clash at SC Freiburg.
1. Will Lewandowski get there?
Robert Lewandowski scored goals number 37, 38 and 39 of the season last weekend. He needs just one more to equal the record.
Not even an injury in late March could stop Robert Lewandowski in his pursuit of Gerd Müller’s record of 40 goals in the 1971/72 season. Having netted four goals in two matches since his return, the Pole is now just one shy of equalling the record. His hat-trick in last Saturday’s 6-0 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach was already the fifth time this season that The Best FIFA Men’s Player has scored three or more goals in a Bundesliga match this season. Only Müller has bettered that – again in the 1971/72 campaign. If Bayern win at Freiburg, it would also be Lewandowski’s 250th Bundesliga victory.
2. Bayern on verge of away record
Since a 0-0 draw at RB Leipzig in May 2019, Bayern have scored in every one of their 33 league outings on the road – equalling a Bundesliga record set by FCB themselves between 2012 and 2014. The Reds can therefore set a new mark against Freiburg – and given their current run of scoring in 69 consecutive competitive matches (home and away), that’s not unlikely.
3. Clear dominance against Freiburg
Bayern have lost just one of their last 35 Bundesliga meetings with Freiburg (W27 D7) – a 2-1 reverse away from home on Matchday 33 of the 2014/15 season. SCF have suffered more Bundesliga defeats against the German record champions (29) than against any other team, and the Black Forest club have only conceded as many goals against Borussia Dortmund in the top flight as they have against FCB (92).
Bayern won 2-1 in the reverse fixture thanks to goals from Lewandowski and Thomas Müller.
4. Snappy Bayern
Bayern boast a tackle success rate of 52.5% this season, and are also top of the Bundesliga table in this department. Opponents Freiburg, in contrast, have contested the fewest challenges in the league and also have the worst success rate (47.7%).
5. Crashing the party in Freiburg
Freiburg have won their final home match in each of the last three Bundesliga seasons, with an aggregate score of 11-1. And since a 2-0 loss against Schalke in May 2014, Christian Streich’s side have always got at least a point in their last home game of a Bundesliga campaign (W4 D1). That’s one run Bayern will be hoping to end.
