It was the cherry on top of a title-winning, barnstorming performance! Even though Bayern's Bundesliga title defence had altready been wrapped up, they played themselves into a true championship frenzy on Matchday 32 against Borussia Mönchengladbach, romping to a 6-0 win - and Robert Lewandowski provided the absolute highlight of the match with his fabulous scissors kick to put the Reds 3-0 up!
Kimmich and Zadrazil also on the podium
The fans of the German record champions were emphatic in their support of the Pole's eye-catching goal, choosing it as their Goal of the Month for May. With 53% of the votes cast, the Best FIFA Men's Player beat Joshua Kimmich's (23%) long-range strike to make it 3-0 against FC Augsburg (5-2 FT) and Sarah Zadrazil's (18%) equally brilliant long-range equaliser in the 4-1 triumph in the Champions League semi-final at Chelsea. For Lewandowski, it's his second accolade of the past season, after his goal against Bielefeld in February.
The side-footed strike against Gladbach was certainly the most perfectly executed, but not the only goal scored by the forward that day. Lewandowski racked up league goals number 37, 38 and 39 in the 6-0 win, which left him with two games to try and equal the 40-goal season record of Bayern legend Gerd Müller. The Poland captain hit the 40 mark in the following match in Freiburg and then set a new record in the very last minute of the 2020/21 campaign with his 41st goal of the season against FCA!
Robert Lewandowski was voted Player of the Season 2020/21 by his Bundesliga colleagues:
