Hainer and Kahn hand over cheques for flood victims

As previously announced, FC Bayern Munich has donated €1 million for people in North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate whose livelihoods are threatened as a result of the floods at the beginning of July. Consultation with both state governments ensured that the financial support could be distributed unbureaucratically and directly to suffering households. FC Bayern president Herbert Hainer and CEO Oliver Kahn ‘handed over’ symbolic cheques to the amount of €500,000 each on Tuesday. FC Bayern Hilfe eV already donated €100,000 to flood victims in Bavaria four weeks ago.

“When such great need arises, our society must stand together and provide help,” Hainer explained. “We can hardly imagine the desperation of the people who have experienced such a disaster and want to show them with this help that FC Bayern stands by their side in solidarity.”

Kahn added: “The pictures we saw, especially from North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate, shocked all of us at FC Bayern. It was important for us to provide help to the people affected quickly and without bureaucracy.”

No date has yet been set for the planned flood victim charity match between Schalke and Bayern in Gelsenkirchen.
