Lewandowski fires his way to new records

Before kick-off in Saturday night's top match against Hertha BSC, Robert Lewandowski received the award for Germany's Footballer of the Year 2021 - and after the whistle blew, the Pole impressively demonstrated why he deserves this title like no other. Lewandowski is a phenomenon and the man for a record: With his three goals against Berlin, the 33-year-old extended his strong run of goal-scoring and set new records:

Lewandowski continued his record run on Saturday with a goal to double the lead.

Personal record run in the Bundesliga

Against Hertha, he scored in his 13th Bundesliga match in a row and set a personal best. Only the late Gerd Müller was more successful in this run: The "Bomber" scored in 16 Bundesliga appearances in a row in the 1969/70 season.

Landmark goal and beating Gerd Müller's streak

Lewandowski even scored for his 16th consecutive competitive match - Gerd Müller achieved that feat in the Bundesliga alone, but only scored in 15 straight competitive matches. The Polish national team captain also scored his 299th, 300th, 301st goals against Hertha in just his 333rd appearance for Bayern. This mark is surpassed only by Gerd Müller (566 goals in 607 matches) in the history of the German record champions.

Lewandowski's second strike of the evening was a special one: It was his 300th competitive goal for FC Bayern!

Record run in the Allianz Arena

Lewandowski also scored in his 12th Bundesliga home game in a row. The world-class striker thus equalled the league record set by Gerd Müller (1969/70) and Jupp Heynckes (1972/73).

2nd in list of hat-trick scorers

For the 15th time Lewandowski scored three or more goals in a Bundesliga match - again only Gerd Müller is ahead of him in the hat-trick scoring lists (32).

Nagelsmann: His goalscoring appetite is extraordinary

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann also raved about the phenomenon that is Lewandowski after the final whistle: "He's incredibly consistent, has a great ability to drop between the lines and gets involved in the game a lot. He is incredibly dangerous because he can finish with every legal part of his body. He's also incredibly good as a person too. His goalscoring appetite is exceptional." Driven by this, Lewandowski also wants to break new records after the international break.
