On Saturday evening, the eyes of Germany's football fans will be on Leipzig! It may only be Matchday 4 of the new Bundesliga campaign, but we already have a cracker with last season's runners-up RB Leipzig hosting defending champions FC Bayern. The stats favour the men from Munich ahead of the 13th competitive meeting between the teams. fcbayern.com has put together a list of other important facts and figures for you:
1. Impressive record against Leipzig
FC Bayern and RB Leipzig have met a total of 12 times in competitive matches (10 times in the Bundesliga, twice in the DFB Cup). With seven wins, four draws and just one defeat, the stats clearly favour the men from Munich. In the Bundesliga, however, there were four straight draws before Bayern's 1-0 win in the last meeting.
2. FCB are Leipzig‘s bogey team
RB Leipzig have a lower points average against FCB than against any team they've played at least three times in the Bundesliga (0.7). Borussia Dortmund are the only team the Saxons have lost more often to in the German top flight (6) than Bayern (5).
3. Leipzig impressive at home
While RB have most recently suffered five straight defeats away from home in the Bundesliga, they've been impressive at home. The Saxons have lost just one of their last ten home games - the one against FC Bayern (0-1), on Matchday 27 of last season.
4. Lewandowski in scoring mood
Robert Lewandowski is back in peak form! FC Bayern's top scorer has netted in his last 13 straight Bundesliga games, setting a new personal record. Only Gerd Müller got on the scoresheet in more Bundesliga games in a row, scoring in 16 consecutive appearances in 1969/70. Lewy bagged a hat-trick against Hertha BSC before the international break, making it the 15th time he's scored at least three times in a match in the Bundesliga.
5. Müller's impressive run
Following his goal against Hertha BSC before the international break, Thomas Müller has now scored for the 13th consecutive Bundesliga season. Only Klaus Augenthaler, Gerd Müller, and Mehmet Scholl (14 each) have scored in more Bundesliga seasons for FCB.
