A strong performance from the FC Bayern World Squad. At the end of the Brazil tour, the team from the 22 youth talents from 17 countries played the Flamengo Rio de Janeiro U20 team on Monday. The team coached by Christopher Loch and FCB legend Zé Roberto, earned a 0-0 draw with a good performance.
Zé Roberto: "Played with commitment and loads of passion"
"The players played with commitment and loads of passion. We had some good moves and chances against a strong Flamengo team. We were strong in defence as well," said Ze Roberto after the game. "We can be very happy," said Loch who recognise an improvement from the first match on Thursday against Vasco de Gama (1-3): "It's sensational the way the lads have developed in the past few days. They have put the things we worked on in training into practice 100%."
Evenly balanced game
Flamengo were first out of the blocks. But FCB will gradually able to get back into the game. The best chance for Bayern in the first half fell to Treasure Odunze but the Flamengo keeper made a good save. FCB keeper Jakov Borna Žaja made an impressive stave at the other end.
Chiba hits the bar
After Flamengo made the stronger start after the break, the Munich team gradually gain control of the match in the second half. FCB had to big chances in the closing stages. First of all, Tarik Scott just missed the ball when he was unmarked and then Hiromu Chiba hit a free kick against the bar. The match ended in a fair 0-0 draw.
In Munich in July
The lads will take home a lot of new memories on Tuesday. Coach Loch draws a positive conclusion from the nine-day Brazil tour both on and off the pitch: "To play as a team after a few days is something very special. You could see off the pitch that there was harmony from the start and it worked better and better on the pitch." The youth players meet up again in Munich in July. Then there will be a friendly against the FC Bayern U19 team. "In Munich the full focus will be on our attacking game. Perhaps we'll see more goals than," said Loch.
