Wednesday round-up from Washington

Day 3 of Bayern’s Audi Summer Tour in Washington was all about the Audi Football Summit against local MLS club DC United. But there was plenty more going on. We round up what the squad got up to on Wednesday…

Bayern delegation visit Pentagon

An FC Bayern delegation including president Herbert Hainer, vice-president Prof. Dr. Dieter Mayer and board member for marketing Andreas Jung went the Pentagon on Wednesday morning. They got to visit the US Department of Defense and the Pentagon 9/11 Memorial. Hainer presented an FC Bayern jersey as a symbol of solidarity and stressed in his speech that the attack over 20 years ago must never be forgotten.

New signing de Ligt joins training

Just hours after landing in Washington on Tuesday evening, Bayern’s newest signing was in action on the training pitch. Matthijs de Ligt took part in the usual morning warm-up ahead of the Audi Football Summit and was able to gain a first impression of what it’ll be like playing with his new teammates in the future. In the afternoon, the 22-year-old defender was officially unveiled at a press conference with the media representatives.

Fan events around the Audi Field

Long before kick-off on the pitch at the Audi Field, there was plenty going on around DC United’s home stadium. Numerous Bayern fans had a big red-and-white party ahead of the game. FCB Legend Giovane Elber and mascot Berni were there signing autographs and taking photos, ensuring the perfect mood for the game in the evening.

Bayern meet Rooney and NFL stars

Thomas Müller came up against a familiar face in DC United manager Wayne Rooney. The 32-year-old Bayern man had opposed the former England international a number of times as players – and scored the odd goal or two. Two people still playing, though, are David Bada and Mecole Hardman for the Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs respectively in the NFL. Both were there at Audi Field to see the 6-2 win over DC and posed for photos with Bayern’s stars after the game. Bada was born in Munich and is a keen Bayern fan.
