5 facts on the Champions League home game against Inter Milan

Bayern have already secured top spot in Champions League Group C for this season after their excellent 3-0 win at Barcelona last Wednesday, but Julian Nagelsmann and his team are not done yet. They close out this part of the European campaign at home to Inter Milan on Tuesday wanting to continue their string of excellent runs, while there are also some more historic milestones in sight. Find out exactly what we mean in our stats and facts on the game.

1. Bayern seeking historic third perfect group

The six-time European champions have a perfect record of five wins from five so far this group stage. If they maintain their 100 per cent record against Inter, it will be the third time Bayern have finished a Champions League group with a full haul of 18 points after 2019/20 and last season. No team has ever achieved the feat three times. Real Madrid in 2011/12 and 2014/15 are the only other club besides Bayern to have done so twice.

2. FCB seeking first home win over Inter

This fixture has quite a strange history in terms of results. Bayern’s 2-0 win in Milan in September was their fourth win away at Inter, but they have never beaten the Nerazzurri in Munich (D1, L2). It’s about time that record changed on Tuesday.

Bayern won the reverse fixture against Inter at the San Siro 2-0 in September.

3. Winning run over Italian teams

Bayern have been victorious in their last five home games against teams from Italy, most recently beating Lazio 2-1 in March 2021. Regardless of location, Germany’s record champions have won their last four meetings with Serie A opposition. And since a 3-2 defeat at home to Inter in March 2011, Bayern have remained unbeaten in 11 encounters with Italian clubs (W9, D2).

4. FCB unbeatable in groups

Bayern have won each of their last 13 Champions League group fixtures at the Allianz Arena, and only failed to win one of the last 26. That was a 1-1 draw with Ajax in October 2018 when current FCB defender Noussair Mazraoui netted the equaliser and Matthijs de Ligt also featured for the Dutch side. Last week’s victory in Barcelona also extended Bayern’s unbeaten run in the Champions League group stage to 33 games (W30, D3). The last 12 of them have all been victories. Both are new record runs in the competition.

The last time Bayern failed to win a group game at home was in October 2018 when Noussair Mazraoui scored for Ajax in a 1-1 draw.

5. Goal guarantee at home

Bayern have found the net in all 21 of their Champions League home games since a 0-0 draw with Sevilla in April 2018. It means fans in Munich have seen at least one FCB goal in 42 of the last 43 European fixtures at the Allianz Arena, with a total of 136 actually scored in that sequence. That works out at 3.2 per game.
