Bayern go into winter break four points clear at the top

FC Bayern remain top of the Bundesliga table - and by four points after Sunday's games! The 1-1 draw between Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz 05 along with Freiburg's 4-1 win over Union Berlin mean that FCB go into the World Cup and winter break with a four-point lead.

Six consecutive Bundesliga wins

Leon Goretzka and Co claimed a sixth straight Bundesliga win at Schalke, underpinning Bayern’s position at the top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern's last six Bundesliga results read 2-0, 6-1, 3-2, 6-2, 2-0 and 5-0. Julian Nagelsmann's side have racked up the maximum haul of 18 points during this time, lifting themselves from fifth place after the 1-0 defeat at Augsburg on Matchday 7 to top spot. And they want to stay there in the new year.

Next match: 20 January 2023 in Leipzig

In sparkling form: Serge Gnabry scored his eighth goal of the season against Schalke.

"We need to carry on playing the way we have been, because we have the chance to win every title that we're competing for," said Nagelsmann after the 2-0 win at Schalke, which was his team's 10th consecutive victory in all competitions. The German serial champions meet Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 on 14 February and 8 March 2023, and visit Mainz in the DFB Cup last 16 on 1 February. They return to Bundesliga action on 20 January with an away fixture against fellow title hopefuls RB Leipzig.

For now, though, the World Cup takes centre stage in football. We wish all the Bayern players taking part the best of luck with their national teams!
