Alphonso Davies: We're young and hungry

Several FC Bayern players will be involved with their national teams at the 2022 World Cup. In club magazine ‘51’, our boys reveal who we should look out for from their sides, how they rate their chances and who their favourites are. Part 3: Alphonso Davies for Canada.

Interview with Alphonso Davies

How do you see your chances?
Davies: "We have a good team and can now prove that on the biggest stage. In a group with Belgium, Morocco and Croatia, we're certainly not among the favourites, so for us the most important thing is just to give our best and see what's possible from game to game."

What’s special about your team?
"We're young and we're hungry. Canada have qualified for a World Cup for the second time after 1986, which alone makes this team special. The euphoria in Canada is great. We're going into it with this mentality and want to make the people happy."

Which player from your team should fans particularly watch out for?
"Jonathan David is scoring a lot of goals for Lille in Ligue 1 right now, but we have a few others in good form and we're looking forward to the challenges ahead."

Who are the favourites for you and why?
"There are so many big nations, I can't decide on one team. If I was just a fan, I'd sit back and enjoy the great football - but for now we want to go as far as possible ourselves."

As well as Davies, 16 other FCB players have been selected for the forthcoming World Cup in Qatar:
