Bayern wrapped up the Bundesliga Hinrunde in real style! In the final match of the first half of the season against 1. FC Köln, the men from Munich found themselves trailing for a long time - but then up stepped Joshua Kimmich. From a good 30 metres out and deep into stoppage time, the midfielder took aim and blasted the ball into the top corner to level the score at 1-1. An amazing and, at the same time, incredibly important goal!
Overwhelming majority for Kimmich
It was hard to find anyone among the German record champions' fans who disagreed! The FCB supporters overwhelmingly voted the 28-year-old as their FC Bayern Goalscorer of the Month for January. Kimmich received 85% of the votes cast, beating Mathys Tel (7%), who put the Reds 4-3 up in the 4-4 friendly draw with Salzburg, and Leroy Sané's opening goal (4%) on Matchday 18 against Eintracht Frankfurt (1-1).
Second award for Kimmich
Kimmich had already impressively demonstrated his qualities as a long-range marksman at the start of the season when he scored the FC Bayern Goal of the Month for August with his free-kick in the 6-1 win at Frankfurt. With these two successes behind him, the Germany international will surely try his hand with a powerful strike from distance in the future.
Kimmich will miss Saturday's home match against Bochum through suspension, but the prospects of securing the first home win of the year are still good:
